Frequently Asked Questions

What is I-Deck and where does it come from ?
I-Deck is produced in Brazil and contains 100% Ipe. Ipe (pronounced ee-pay) is a Hardwood, which grows in Brazil and throughout the rest of South and Central America.

Is Ipe being harvested responsibly ?
I-Deck material is harvested responsibly under the guidelines and techniques of sustainable yield forestry management as set forth by the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO).

Has I-Deck been kiln dried ?
I-Deck comes well air dried with a moisture content ranging between 15 and 25%.

Does I-Deck weather ?
Weather does not affect the structual integrity of the wood. Over time the sun will change the wood from its original color to a beautiful silver patina.

Is Ipe subject to insect damage ?
Because of the dense structure of Ipe it is not only resistant to insects, but also to decay, rot and mold.

What is the fire rating of Ipe ?
NFPA test results give Ipe an A rating and UBC a class 1 - both being the highest possible rating for a building material. Steel and concrete have the same rating.

How long will I-Deck last ?
Due to the properties of Ipe we offer a 25-year limited warranty against insect and decay damage to the I-Deck products.
